Frequently Asked Questions
We know visiting a new church can be awkward and uncomfortable. You might be unsure about our beliefs, times, or maybe our dress code (we don’t really have one… just wear something.) Below you’ll find answers to most questions you might have about Fairfax.
Currently, we have a single Sunday morning worship service at 9 AM that lasts about an hour. Bible class follows at 10:30 AM. Since our church members live spread out, we have a short break between services to allow time for everyone to gather.
Our Sunday mornings are a relaxed time of fellowship with each other and worship. Don’t be worried about finding a class or a place to sit in the worship service. We have greeters who want to welcome you and answer any questions you might have.
The Fairfax Church of Christ usually has about around 400 people on a typical Sunday.
Clothes! We have people in jeans and a t-shirt, business casual, and even a few suits. We are much less concerned with what you wear than with you simply coming and feeling comfortable and welcome!
We take communion every Sunday morning as a way to remember the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. This special meal not only helps us reflect on Christ but also expresses our unity as believers. Trays with bread and a cup are usually passed, and individual prepackaged communion packs are also available when you walk in. As the tray reaches you, you are welcome to take communion at that moment—there’s no need to wait for everyone to partake together.
Once a month, we take communion at tables instead of passing trays, providing a different way to share in this meaningful practice. If you feel comfortable sharing this meal with us, we invite you to do so. If not, our staff would love to talk with you about baptism, communion, and life in a Christian community.
Yes, we have small groups, which we call Growth Groups! Most of our groups meet on Sunday evenings and typically include a meal, a short devotional, prayer, and an outreach or service project. Our groups are spread throughout the Northern Virginia and Washington D.C. area, making it easy to find one near you.
If you’re interested in joining,\xA0send us an email,\xA0and we’ll provide all the information you need to find the perfect fit. You might even receive a personal invitation from one of our members! Feel free to visit different groups until you find one that aligns with your location, life stage, passions, and spiritual gifts.
Our children’s and youth ministries are a real strength of the Fairfax Church of Christ. Our Children’s Ministry is for babies through 6th grade. For our kids in 4th-6th grade, we have S.O.S. (Showing Our Savior) which provides a monthly devotional during worship and a fun activity following Bible class (like skating & laser tag).
The Youth Ministry has a middle school group (7th-8th) and the high school group (9th-12th).\xA0Our children and teens are involved in Bible studies, service projects, mission trips, leadership retreats, camps, and all kinds of fun activities. These ministries also provide resources for parents to help them in raising their children to follow God.
We have plenty of areas to serve, and we encourage everyone to get involved! You can sign up by\xA0clicking here. To help you discover your natural strengths and spiritual gifts, we offer a Strengths Finder and Spiritual Gifts assessment. These insights can be applied to various areas of your life—whether in your family, your unchurched/world settings, or here at the church. To take the assessment or learn more about getting involved in a specific ministry,\xA0contact Lisa Bosley, our Family Life Minister.
Absolutely! Our vision statement says that we will “reflect God’s heart in our communities.” We care deeply about our communities and are actively involved in seeking their welfare, serving those around us, and introducing people to Christ.
In 2025, we hosted our first\xA0“Night to Shine,”\xA0a prom night designed for individuals with special needs, and we hope to continue offering this event in the future. Several of our members serve on Thursday nights in downtown D.C. through a ministry called “Least of These,” where they feed the homeless, pray with them, and share the gospel. We also offer ESL classes to help people improve their English and grow in their understanding of the gospel. Additionally, each winter, we open our building to provide shelter for our homeless neighbors for a week.
We have an entry level evangelistic Bible study that can be done one on one with one of our ministers or in a small group–a group specifically that designed to bring together those who are new in their seeking God and some Christians who join them in their journey. Contact us below if you are interested.
