Our Vision for 2030
We hope and pray that in 2030, this can be said of the Fairfax Church of Christ:
We are a welcoming, diverse community that provides a haven for those seeking God. We provide a place of refuge, walking with people through the challenges of life. To foster spiritual and mental healing, we offer on-site Christian counseling services, along with care groups and educational classes.
We celebrate the work of God in our lives and equip one another to reach our local and distant communities with the good news of Jesus. We have grown our online presence in a way that has led many people to become Christ followers who are in active community with other Christ followers.
Seeking the welfare of our communities, we use our unique location and resources for spiritual impact. We are indispensable to these communities. Our updated facility is flexible and accessible. Our early learning center and before and after school activities will operate at capacity. We have established relationships with the families who benefit from the school to share the Gospel of Jesus consistently. To ensure we keep hearts and minds open to new ministries, we established a ministry research & development team. We try new ideas and new opportunities to follow the spirit of God.
As people changed by the Gospel, we are intentional about creating multiple gatherings, including our weekly corporate worship, that encourage greater growth through Biblical understanding, fostering relationships, and serving the needs of the people. We’ve nurtured spiritual maturity through utilizing spiritual gifts, training teachers, and equipping leaders.
This is a church led by Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit, dedicated to transforming lives into the image of Jesus, and advancing the kingdom of God.
Our Family Believes
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This is the mystery of the Holy Trinity, where each person is fully God, coequal and coeternal. Matthew 28:19; John 14:16-17, 26; 2 Corinthians 13:14
We believe in God the Father Almighty, the Creator of all things visible and invisible. He is the source of all creation, and His sovereign will governs the universe. Genesis 1:1; Isaiah 45:18; Colossians 1:16-17
We believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the eternal Word, and the one and only Savior. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, fully human and fully divine. He lived a sinless life, suffered, and was crucified as atonement for our sins. On the third day, He rose bodily from the dead, ascended into Heaven, and will return in victory to rule forever. John 1:1-14; Matthew 1:18-25; Romans 5:8; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; Revelation 19:11-16
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. The Holy Spirit indwells every believer, helps us in our weakness, intercedes for us in prayer, and empowers us to live fruitful Christian lives. John 16:7-15; Romans 8:26-27; 1 Corinthians 3:16; Acts 1:8
- We believe that mankind, created by God, willfully sinned and is therefore lost and without hope apart from Jesus Christ. Salvation, the forgiveness of sins, is only by grace through the blood of Jesus Christ. One receives salvation by placing faith in Christ, repenting of sin, confessing Christ as Lord, and being baptized by immersion. Romans 3:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; Acts 2:38; Romans 10:9-10; Mark 16:16
- We believe that those who have received salvation through faith in Jesus Christ are sent into the world to proclaim the Gospel and to love and serve others, just as Jesus Himself did. Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-16; John 13:34-35
- We believe that the Bible is God’s inspired Word, the final authority for all matters of faith, truth, morality, and Christian living. The original writings of Scripture were without error.
2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Psalm 119:105
- We believe that the Bible teaches that God is the Creator and Sustainer of human life, that each person is created in His image, and that life is sacred from conception to natural death. God created each person as male or female, and these distinct, complementary genders together reflect His image. Each person’s biological gender is an intrinsic and immutable part of their nature and identity.
Genesis 1:26-27; Psalm 139:13-16; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
- We believe the Bible teaches that God established marriage in the beginning as a lifelong, exclusive relationship between one man and one woman. Sexual intimacy is reserved as an expression of love and commitment within marriage. Any expression of sexuality outside of Biblical marriage is sin.
Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4-6; Hebrews 13:4
- We believe in the Church of Jesus Christ, founded on the Day of Pentecost and consisting of all Christians everywhere, organized into local assemblies known as churches. Acts 2:42-47; Ephesians 5:23-32
- We believe that every Christian is called to be an active member of a local church. The Elders, as overseers and shepherds of the church, have the responsibility of teaching, guiding, and caring for its members. They are the final interpretive authority of Scripture’s meaning and application for the church.1 Peter 5:1-4; Hebrews 13:17; Acts 20:28
- We believe the Bible instructs church members to:
- Meet regularly for fellowship, worship, teaching, and the Lord’s Supper.
- Serve one another using both natural abilities and spiritual gifts.
- Love, bear with, forgive, and accept one another in unity.
- Seek peace, unity, and agreement within the body of Christ.
- Pray for one another, bear each other’s burdens, and spur one another to love and good deeds.
- Submit to the authority of the elders and support the church financially.
- Pursue personal holiness and strive to obey God’s Word.
- Join in the mission of fulfilling the Great Commission.
- Hebrews 10:24-25; Galatians 6:2; Ephesians 4:11-16; Matthew 28:19-20
