Let’s face it, whenever we go some place new, we wonder what to expect and what we’re getting ourselves into. So let me share with you what you’re “getting yourself into” when you worship with us.
As you can imagine, every Sunday worship assembly isn’t exactly the same, but there are some common ingredients we mix in every week.
Worship at Fairfax Church of Christ
Our worship is fairly simple and designed to keep the focus on God, not ourselves. As you can imagine, every Sunday worship assembly isn’t exactly the same, but there are some common ingredients we mix in every week.
MUSIC – Singing and music play a big part of our Sunday worship. Music captures our hearts for God. So we sing to Him and each other. One of the first things visitors sometimes notice is that we do not have a choir or musical instruments. Those who have not heard unaccompanied singing (acapella) before are usually quickly caught up in the beauty of the blended voices. You can sing with us or you can sit back and listen to great melodies and lyrics written to bring us closer to God and to each other.
PREACHING – The Bible is read and taught. One of our church values in Sunday worship is the belief that God’s Word transforms lives and cultures. At every Sunday worship, you can expect a time of sharing and teaching from the Bible.
COMMUNION – Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection is remembered and celebrated every Sunday at Fairfax Church of Christ. The greatest event in history is the three days when Jesus died, was buried, and then was resurrected for our sins. Therefore, each Sunday we take Communion (or the Lord’s Supper) so we can cherish what God did through Jesus. We don’t want to forget! So you can expect a time during worship when we will call back to our minds this pivotal part of our salvation. During this time you will see a plate with bread (representing the body of Christ) and a plate with cups of grape juice (representing the blood of Christ shed on the cross) passed down the rows. If you feel comfortable, please join us in remembering our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and what He did for us out of His great love and mercy.
PRAYER – We also pray. Communication is a two way street in all relationships, as it is in our relationship with God. You can expect to hear prayers offered to God every Sunday. Prayers of praise, prayers of thanks, prayers for help, and even prayers of confession for when we mess up.
GIVING – And yes you can expect us to pass the plate asking for money. We give money every Sunday. All members are encouraged to share part of the resources God has given them with our church family. God blesses our lives through FXCC, so we want to thank God by giving back to Him. Our guests are not expected to give…unless they feel the worship has been a blessing and feel compelled to give back to God.
FAMILY NEWS – We also share family announcements and news. They help to keep us current on what God is doing among us and keep us connected to each other and our community.
FELLOWSHIP – And here is something else you can expect. Meeting some normal, warm, and friendly people who are probably a lot like you. Most of us live in the same place and culture that you do. We have too much to do and too little time to do it. So Sunday worship is a time for us to slow down, hang out, and realign ourselves with God and people who are trying to live for Him. To foster this fellowship among believers, we have dedicated a time between Worship and Bible Classes just for being in each others lives and getting connected. During this time we offer refreshments and great conversation. We hope you feel welcome and part of the family during this time.
Bible Classes at Fairfax Church of Christ
On Sunday morning we have Bible classes for all ages at 10:30 a.m. —from newborns to senior citizens. We believe the Bible is God’s Word, so this time of reading, discussion and study is important to us. You can view our classes for the current semester by clicking here.
