“After Jesus was born in Bethlehem, Magi from the East came to Jerusalem…they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.” (Matthew 2:1-2,10)
Each year as summer draws to a close, FXCC sets aside a day of worship and service to participate in the Magi project. Through Manna Global Ministries, churches, schools and organizations from across the United States pack and send small Christmas gifts to children in the Dominican Republic. For many of these children their Magi gift may be the only gift they receive at Christmas.
This year we are asking the FXCC family to enlist their friends, family, neighbors and co-workers to help us provide as many Magi gifts as possible!
Here’s how it works:
- Beginning Sunday, August 5th, pick-up a Magi gift shopping list for yourself and one for a friend (see lists below).
- Share the story of how we provide Magi gifts to children in the DR with someone you know and ask them to consider providing a gift.
- Shop for your gift(s) and invite your friends to join us on Sunday, September 23rd when we will pack the gifts together during our fellowship time (10-10:30).
Magi Mission Trip
In conjunction with the Magi project, the Distant Missions team has sent groups from FXCC since 2008 to help distribute Magi gifts to children in the Dominican Republic. Each year the mission trip team spends a week serving side-by-side with our partners from Manna Global Ministries to be God’s heart to the global community.
The primary goal of this trip is to assist the missionary team in the Dominican Republic to distribute over 1,000 Magi gifts that are provided by FXCC and other groups throughout the United States. The group ushers in the Christmas season and spreads a lot of holiday cheer! In addition, the group also assists the missionaries with on-going outreach to local communities and discipleship efforts through Manna’s Children’s Home and Manna Christian School.
This opportunity is open to anyone willing to serve! There are no required skills or abilities, nor restrictions on age (young or old!). Families are especially encouraged to participate as this is a great opportunity for parents to serve and share with their children.
The 2018 trip will take place November 23-28. If you would like more information or wish to participate in the trip, please contact Kenneth McClary (firstname.lastname@example.org)
