Provides filled Christmas Stockings to deserving children in the Fairfax County area. Most come from poor families, but some are abused, abandoned, or handicapped. Volunteer opportunities includes sewing simple Christmas Stockings, shopping for toys and material, helping out with our website, or serving on the board or one of the many committees. Sponsor a holiday or special event party for kids.
Sponsor a field trip for kids
Sponsor a 'baby shower' collecting things for babies that they will distribute
Provide a back-to-school clothes closet for needy families
Collect supplies needed for kids at the resource centers: snacks, hygiene items, school supplies
Adopt a program, help one night with their ongoing programs: tutoring, arts, computers, etc.
Help teens in the neighborhood do a community service project
Sponsor a summer activity for kids during the day
Individual
Reading to young children at the homeless resource center
Babysit with young kids while mothers make calls or practice job skills
Share your hobby or talent with a youth.
Be a driver for a field trip
Transport a client to a medical appointment
Teach a class on parenting, career planning, jobs, seasonal crafts, knitting, or cooking
Mentor an adult moving from welfare to work
Mentor or tutor a child or teen
Provides housing for families with hospitalized children.
Family or Group - Volunteer to make a meal for all the families staying at the house.

Family Shelters
Family or Group - See what you can do to help a shelter - see if they need blankets, food, or volunteers. They may need some kind of 'care packages' for residents too. Care packages could be baked goods, small toys, hygiene items, etc.
Group or Individual - (must be 16 or older to help) Construct or refurbish homes, typically in Arlington or Alexandria
Family - provide a meal for the workers

Emergency shelter for Runaway and Homeless teens ages 12 - 17
Group - Special Project Volunteers, Beautify house and grounds., rake leaves, etc. (kids did this in 2000)
Individual - Direct Care Volunteer, work with teen in a long term, short term, or one-time basis.
Visit shut-ins from our church, do a project, make care packages, sing, etc.

Family - Take pets to visit elderly or other people in care centers in our area.
